Product description
Terms & Conditions
A large proportion of the body's phosphorus is stored in the skeleton and teeth, where the mineral is an essential part of their structure. Phosphorus also plays a role in cellular energy metabolism and contributes to the muscles' ability to perform work.
For proper mineral balance, it is important that calcium and phosphorus are fed in the correct ratio. An imbalance between these minerals can affect the horse's development and overall wellbeing. A suitable calcium-to-phosphorus ratio is generally between 1.2:1 and 1.8:1.
Phosphorus deficiency may lead to reduced mineralisation of the skeleton and, over time, can also affect appetite, growth and fertility. Pregnant and lactating mares, as well as young growing horses, generally have a higher phosphorus requirement than adult horses at maintenance.
Trikem Phosphorus can be used when the diet contains insufficient phosphorus or when the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio needs adjustment. If in doubt, it is recommended to calculate the horse's diet before supplementing.
